- I want to buy a home, but I can't afford one. Can I get a grant for this?
If you are a low income family or individual, you should contact a HOME Local Program Administrator (LPA) for assistance. To identify a local LPA or to discuss other options, contact the DHCR Regional Office which serves your area.
- I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. Can DHCR help me make needed repairs?
You may be eligible for assistance under the RESTORE Program. To identify an organization near you that administers a RESTORE program, contact the DHCR Regional Office which serves your area.
- Can you help me find a house/apartment I can afford?
DHCR's Affordable Housing Directory (AHD) provides the ability to search throughout New York State for affordable rental housing funded by DHCR or to search for Neighborhood and Rural Preservation Companies which serve your area and can assist you. Either type of search will result in a list which will include contact information for each specific property or preservation company.
DHCR also supervises middle income housing throughout the State. For a listing of these developments, access the Housing Operations or contact DHCR's Housing Management Bureau for further assistance.
- I saw a New York state sign on a building under construction. How can I get an apartment there?
You can contact the DHCR Regional Office serving your area for possible assistance in identifying the project sponsor or developer.
- There is a vacant building/lot in my neighborhood. How can I buy it and repair/build on it?
You can contact the Community Planning Board or your local Assessor for information regarding the ownership of the property. You can also contact a Neighborhood/Rural Preservation Company serving your area for additional assistance.
- Can I get money to fix my house?
You may be eligible for assistance from a DHCR-funded not-for-profit organization in your area. Contact the DHCR Regional Office which serves your area to identify and locate these organizations.
- What funding programs does DHCR have to rehabilitate or build affordable housing?
Information about DHCR's capital programs is available in the "Housing Programs of New York State booklet". More detailed information about the Division's capital programs can be found in the Capital Programs Manual. If you need additional information, you can "contact us".
- How often are funds made available for new construction or rehabilitation of an existing building?
DHCR issues a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for capital projects annually. The NOFA is usually issued in the Fall, with applications generally due the following Spring. NOFAs in other program areas are issued on a periodic basis, as needed. Application due dates and general requirements for each program can be found in the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). - How can I get funding?

- How do I apply for funding? How can I get an application package?

- Is pre-development or seed money available?
Yes. Not-for-profit organizations are eligible for technical and financial assistance under the Housing Trust Fund and HOME programs. Additional information can be found in the Capital Programs Manual or you can contact the DHCR Regional Office serving your area.
